Descaling is the process of cutting and removing accumulated calcified scales that are blocking the interiors of the pipes. How does this calcification happen? Excessive flushing with water creates a permanently wet or damp environment where bacteria love to thrive. As bacterial colonies are formed, scales are formed from flushed urine. Urine contains salt, calcium, silica and lime which forms a protective shell like a coral formation protecting the bacterial colonies. These scales can grow large enough to block pipes.
